I was in tears, when I finished watching this movie. It doesn’t mean much because many movies left me inters like ‘ You’ve got mail’, ‘Angles in the Baseball ground’ etc.
But this movie ‘8 below’ touched me very deeply. I see it every time I get time.
The movie is all about love and care for 8 dogs by its care taker. The movie has a good crispy script, a lot of emotions, true moments which takes away your breath and a good message.
It starts with one Doctor Davis McClaren comes to Atlantic to collect a meteorite.
Our hero who is the guide in Atlantic sense that it is too late to travel to the mountain the doctor wants to go and the ICE is too thin to travel. But he takes the challenge having great faith in his sludge dogs. The scenes where he introduces each f the dog to the doctor is very good. It shows how much he cares for them. Through out their journey I could feel how much obstacles they have to live thru every day in an expedition in Antarctica
Without much hassle the team reaches the destination and the doctor finds what he was there for. But in between there is warning of a bad storm there way. Once they start back, they are badly hit by the storm, thin Ice, an accident for the doctor. The scene in which the dog saves the doctor is really good. Also the heart stopping one is the place where the whole team is about to plunge from a cliff. We can feel the power of each dog pulling them out of their. The lead dog Maya is really amazing.
Only the sense of direction from dog and determination of the guide will get them back to base on time to move out. Then the expedition team had to leave dogs there as there is not enough place for everyone. But they never comes back to rescue the dogs.
The next 20 to 25 minutes is what is all about sludge dogs, how they are trained, how they help each other, how they survive on birds, whales and literally anything they could have their palm on. Mean while our hero is totally heart broken, finding some or the other way to reach Antarctica to get his dogs. Things finally get a turn around when the doctor decides to use his money left from the expedition to catch up with the dog.
